Give me everything that sparkles!

Glitz, gold and blush pink. As event decorators we’re always fascinated to see how trends evolve each year — and, just as much, to see the classic wedding concepts that keep making a comeback. Sparkle is one of them.

It’s all about showing your inner glitz. You can sparkle like diamonds, shine like gold, or show your softer side with blush-pink hues. These elements are so versatile they slot into almost any wedding theme.

Why sparkle is timeless

What we love about glitz, gold and blush is that they never really date. A bride can go from a classic 1920s Gatsby wedding — crystals with gold accents — to a posh modern Hollywood affair with blush pink and rhinestone embellishments. Whatever concept you have your eyes on, you can’t go wrong.

The pieces that do the sparkling

  • Gold crystal candle holders. A favourite: they make great centrepieces and set a romantic tone for the evening. They fit an era-themed wedding and a modern luxury celebration equally well.
  • Sequin linens and backdrops. A champagne or rose-gold sequin head table catches every camera flash.
  • Crystal trees and garlands. Manzanita trees hung with crystals throw tiny rainbows across the room.
  • Gold chargers and flatware. The easiest way to add shine at every seat.
  • Mercury glass votives. Dozens of small flames reflected in silvered glass.

How to sparkle without overdoing it

Pick one hero metal — gold, rose gold or silver — and use it consistently. Let blush or ivory florals soften the shine, and keep at least one matte texture (linen, velvet, greenery) in every view so the eye has somewhere to rest. Then light it: sparkle only works when there’s something to reflect, so plan candlelight and pin-spots alongside the décor.

Sparkle, a decade on

Ten years after we first wrote about it, the sparkle trend has only matured: brushed rather than mirror gold, champagne instead of yellow gold, crystal used as an accent rather than everywhere.
