Décor by venue type
How to decorate every kind of room
Ballrooms & banquet halls
Scale is everything. Tall centrepieces on gold stands, up-lighting on the walls and a statement head table stop a big room from feeling empty.
Hotels
Check install windows — hotel ballrooms often turn over fast. Freestanding backdrops and pre-built centrepieces keep load-in short.
Country clubs
Lean into the view. Low, lush centrepieces keep sightlines to the windows and greens; save height for the ceremony.
Gardens & conservatories
Let the setting lead. Choose heat-hardy blooms, add lanterns for evening, and plan a rain-ready second layout.
Lofts
Exposed brick and beams love candlelight, greenery and long banquet tables. Draping can soften a ceiling.
Restaurants
Work with the existing décor: bud vases, votives and a single focal arrangement rather than a full room overhaul.
Building your team
The rest of your vendor list
Beyond the venue, most Chicago weddings come together with the same core team: beauty (hair and makeup), a DJ or band, catering and sweets, photo and video, and — if you want help pulling it all together — a planner or month-of coordinator.
Book the venue and photographer first; they set the date and fill fastest. Décor and florals usually follow once you know the room and the season.
